[Ep 18] World-Travelling Ukulele Player Shares How She Lives And Works

In this episode, I had the great pleasure of chatting with another amazing influencer, Brooke Palmer. I met Brooke years ago online when she read one of my posts about living a real life on my other blog, BrownVagabonder. She messaged me and we started a conversation and an online friendship that has lasted years now.

I love the internet for this exact reason. You might not believe it but I have never met Brooke face-to-face, but we are still friends in the truest sense of the word.

She has been travelling and working outside of the United States for fifteen years now. She earns her living by teaching English, singing in hotels and bars, and busking on streets.

I am absolutely amazed by how many different ways there truly are for making money and travelling. Most of us might feel sketchy about this since travelling alone is already costly, but here you go, there are these people like my friend Brooke.

If you have a passion in anything, I bet you there is a way to make money from that passion. Don’t give up, as Brooke says. Figure it out. Work at it. Eventually, something will click.

Indeed, when there’s a will, there’s a way.

My Meditation Practice Has Affected Every Single Aspect Of My Life

When I first started meditating, I did it, because it sounded like a good way to learn more about myself. Who am I, I asked in my journal over and over again. They said, meditation is a good way to get to know yourself. For whatever reason, I have always been interested in learning and knowing more about myself. The physical world is awesome, and I like living in it. But I spend a lot of time in myself, in my head, and in my body, trying to figure out who am I and all of those fun questions.

In addition, I only feel attracted to people who are on the same journey as I am. The people who ask the difficult questions, and who sit alone with themselves while they ponder these intriguing questions.

Who am I? Why am I here? What is going on in this world? Why does it feel like everything is going to hell in a hand-basket? How can I be the best person possible in every moment? Why do I feel like such a failure at times? What can I do to leave this world a better place than when I came into it? Am I doing the best I can in every moment? Where will we go from here? Will it resemble Earth in any form? Do past lives exist? If they do exist, is time non-linear and are all past lives happening all at once? Do parallel universes exist? Do ghosts, fairies, and unicorns exist? Why do I believe that this world is magical and everyone is good?

In this episode, I had the great pleasure of chatting with Nick Pearson. I met Nick in an online forum for entrepreneurs and instantly realized that his style is different. I wanted to bring him on the show to show you that people of all ages and genders are changing their lives and living their passions every single day.

He decided to start his online craft business, Endless Inspirations, at a point in his life, when most people his age are thinking about retiring or playing golf. He decided to focus on something online because it was the easiest and cheapest way to start a business.

In my conversation with Nick, I was impressed with his tenacity and goal-oriented nature. He wants to make something of himself and his business, despite all of the roadblocks. He’s an inspiration to us all who ever think age is a limiting factor.

Life Purposes Are Malleable and Change Over Your Lifetime

Having life purposes matters. So many people ask me how I came up with my current life purpose (I help people live their Level 10 lives with my words, videos, and podcasts). They wonder about my brand name, The Millionaire Hippie, and about the FB group with the same name that I created. Why are you doing all of this, they ask?

The Journey To My Life Purpose

When people start asking me all of these questions, I know it is because they themselves are going through a similar journey of discovery and are looking for answers. Maybe they are searching for their life purpose, or maybe they know what they are supposed to be doing with their life, but they are too afraid to take the first step.

They are asking me about my journey. In that moment, I wished I could have had someone following me around with a videocamera throughout my life. This way everyone asking me questions could see how everything in my life has been bringing me up to this point of discovery.

Everything that has happened in my life has happened so I could at this point in my life discover my life purpose and execute it. 

It seems like a bold statement to make. But it is the truth. Everything that has happened and will happen in your life is happening for a reason. A very clear reason that will only be apparent to you in hindsight. But that reason exists.

In that regard, I decided to forget about the videocamera, and document all of the different trends in my life that I believe have bought me up to this point. Maybe this will prove the idea to or not. But in my mind, right now, sitting on the ground in my condo in Toronto, it seems like a grand idea.

The Start

I was born in New Delhi, India on a hot summer day, or that’s what my parents tell me. The hospital I was born into is one of the best teaching hospitals in the world. I think that marks the start of my long career of loving to learn and wanting to learn more all the time. I’m one of the most curious people you will find on this planet. (more…)

A few weeks ago, I decided that I will move to Chiang Mai for six months to work on my online business. The decision actually came as a surprise not only to myself, but all of the people around me. I have been happily plugging away on my business in Toronto in my little oasis of a condo downtown. I love Toronto, and I love the life I have here.

I am not running away from anything.

But I desperately want to be around other entrepreneurs who think like me and want the same things in life as I do.

In Toronto I’m surrounded by 9-5ers who are all really nice people, but don’t really think like an entrepreneur does. They don’t have any useful feedback to provide into my business.

I am extremely sensitive to negative energies around me, and I know when someone shows up in my life who’s going to drain me, rather than support me. Everyone and everything is energy. This makes using energy to heal yourself and others even more important.

In this episode, I’ll be talking about the sixth immutable law of the universe – The Law of Relativity.

What does immutable mean? These laws of the universe are universal – they are apparent and working even if we are aware of it or not. It’s like the Law of Gravity – even if you are aware of it or not, the law will affect you and your descent from a tall building.

The Law of Relativity basically says that you can always find someone who is in a worse-off position than you and everything is relative to what your baseline might be.

In order to feel good about your situation in life and where you are, use this law to compare yourself to those in a worse-off position than you. It doesn’t mean that we are not always striving for more and more abundance. But we are still grateful for all that we have right now.

Meditation helps you see the world clearly. It can be a muddy world out there with all the different messages floating towards you from society, family, government, and your own crazy mind. But when you meditate, all of that peripheral stuff drops off. Everything becomes clearer. Life becomes less muddy. Your path is lit up showing you the way.

Meditation Helped Me Decide To Quit Corporate

When I decided to quit my job to start my business, I did it because I had been consistently meditating for the year before that point, and I couldn’t hide from the truth anymore. The truth being, I was unhappy serving and building other people’s dreams and I wanted to start something of my own based on my dreams and vision.

At that point, I didn’t realize how much my meditation practice would help me in my entrepreneurial journey as well.

To be perfectly honest, an entrepreneur’s life is hard and not for everyone. It’s full of ups and downs, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. There are so many pitfalls, and blackholes to deal with. Some days you are excited to be alive and working on your dreams. Other days you feel so foolish for giving up a comfortable corporate existence to start your own thing.

It requires a different breed of human to deal with the atrocities put upon by this entrepreneurial life. But something that helps quite a bit on the journey is holding a steady, consistent meditation practice. (more…)
