Duhigg breaks habits down into three components, which makes for an easier understanding of the process.
We all have, at some point in our lives, started a new habit, with the best intentions in the world, and let it die right after. Think about that gym subscription, or the Zumba class you joined, but ended up forgetting about a few weeks later.
Why is it that we often seem to put great efforts and time into new habits at the start, but give up soon after?
Also, we all have bad habits that we have incorporated into our daily routines that we would so like to get rid of.
