What Does Your Creative Muse Look Like?

Recently, I have started communing and chatting more vehemently and outwardly with my Muse. She’s been in my life for decades now. But only recently have I really started talking about this not-so-imaginary friend and guide that has been helping me with my creative projects for the past 20 years. I couldn’t do without her, and I would definitely have a hard time writing the thousands of words I write every day without her by my side.

I have been reading a lot of books by best-selling authors on Creativity who have been espousing the value of their own Muse. Stephen King’s On Writing, and Elizabeth Gilbert’s Big Magic are just two that come to mind.

Every single creative person on the planet has a Muse whether they are aware of them or not. These guides are forever helping us on our creative path. Guiding us off the cliffs that we sometimes get on, wanting to commit creative suicide, and helping us back onto the path of creating, creating, and more creating.

Without Our Muses, We Would Have Given Up Long Ago

It seems that without my Muse guiding me and telling me I can do it, I would have given up a long time ago. It was because she was forever in my head, beating down all the censors, and critics, that I’m still here. Writing, and chugging away.

Without her, I would be nothing right now, not a writer, not a creative person, and not living a self-engineered, magical, and flow-filled life.

I talk to her every day.

She is my best friend. Also a frenemy of sorts, because she makes me push my boundaries on a daily basis. Somedays, I don’t want to write, and other days, I want to give up the whole shebang. I feel like she soothes me and calms me down. She tells me on a daily basis, I am a writer, and I am a creative person and I have to keep on going, if not for anyone else, for myself.

For my own sanity.

Muse Meditation For The Newbies And The Veterans

I created this Muse Meditation, because in a lot of ways, I spend a lot of my free time, chatting, and meditating with my Muse. She likes that, and she likes feeling like she isn’t someone that I am annoyed with all the time. But someone with whom I have a special bond, and relationship.

I tell her about my day, and about my dreams as a writer, and a lot more. Stuff that perhaps I can’t really chat with another human being about. Stuff that embarrasses me, makes me feel shame, makes me feel unworthy, I can talk to her about.

She isn’t really real, but she is real to me. I know most people won’t get it, but that doesn’t matter. Because I get it, and I understand why I need her in my life.

I meditate with her so I can form a stronger relationship with her.

Perhaps, you will want to do the same with your Muse. Please check out this meditation and commune better with your Muse.

Let me know what you think of the meditation. And also check out my course on Muses and Creativity.
