When I first start anything, it might be an online business or a new meditation practice, I always feel like I am the worst in that specific field.
I am the only one in the whole world who has no idea what she’s doing (have you ever tried an imposter syndrome meditation?).
According to Wikipedia, Impostor syndrome (also known as impostor phenomenon or fraud syndrome or the imposter experience) is a concept describing high-achieving individuals who are marked by an inability to internalize their accomplishments and a persistent fear of being exposed as a “fraud.”
As you can see, Imposter Syndrome affects high achievers. And it affects them when they are doing a lot of things outside of their comfort zone.
Imposter syndrome crops up often in the entrepreneurs that I meet on a daily basis. This is because they are always working outside of their comfort zone, and that makes them feel like they are constantly having to perform at a different level.
Everyone Feels Like An Imposter In Their Field
I have realized that everyone feels like an Imposter several times a week, if not several times a day.
I get entrepreneurial friends emailing me on the daily telling me that they feel like a fraud. They feel like they don’t know what they are doing, and they feel terrified.
Not only do newbies feel like that, but also, people who have been in the field for a long time. It isn’t something that stops affecting you after you’ve been in your industry for a certain period of time. Or if you start earning a certain amount of money.
Entrepreneurs with million-dollar businesses or veterans in their industry still feel the ravages of Imposter Syndrome.
This is kind of a consolation to all of us who feel like we are the only ones who have no idea what we are doing in our field. If everyone is feeling this way, then we can just relax, and move on. We have nothing to worry about.
This Imposter Syndrome Meditation Will Help You Out
Because Imposter syndrome hits us when we are high achievers, and we are moving out of our comfort zone, it means, that we are on the right path.
I think of it as a signpost or a message from the universe telling me that I am doing well. I am pushing myself, and I should keep on going. It’s a great message to receive from the universe.
It tells me that if I want to keep being a high achiever, and keep pushing myself harder and harder, then Imposter syndrome will be a normal part of my daily life.
But that doesn’t mean that I can’t do something to negate the effects of it a little bit. Or reduce its harshness. That is why I created this meditation for you to try out, and work with.
It will help you realize what Imposter syndrome feels like. This way you can work through the feeling by feeling it deeper. Rather than running away from the feeling by numbing yourself. Or worse, feel disheartened about the path that you have taken on.
Take a gander at it, and let me know how it works for you. I have used it myself for months with great results.
