Everything Always Takes Longer Than You Expect And Costs More

  • Reading time:5 mins read

I think human beings are optimistic creatures, almost to a fault. We get excited about something, and we work on it, believing that everything is going to turn out perfectly, without any effort, or with very little effort, time, and money invested. In this article, I speak about the relation between optimism and realism.

The hopefulness is a good thing. Optimism is absolutely a ‘positive’ quality to have (no pun intended). It is overly optimistic people who end up believing in their own power to make change, and end up creating impact on this planet. If the entrepreneurs of the past and present did not believe that they had the capacity to influence the world, if they didn’t run with that positivity, they wouldn’t have lifted a finger to make their dreams come true.

But everything has to be gauged with a sort of filtered optimism. Yes, be optimistic, believe that everything is possible, and everything is going to turn out roses and butterflies.

And then pour on a little bit of realism onto those roses and butterflies, to turn them into lily pads and caterpillars. A healthy dose of realism along with a dollop of optimism is the true recipe to success in any endeavour.

How To Keep Things Simple In Our Business And Life

  • Reading time:12 mins read

Recently, I have started working on a new project – a membership site with all of the different lessons and courses. This way all of my tribe can have access to all of my stuff in one platform without any complications. Well, as always, I was planning out my project, in the most creative way possible. Is it a trait of creative people or perhaps all people that we like to complicate things beyond the necessary?

I am definitely guilty of this quality. Thus, instead of keeping my membership site as simple as possible, I made it so complicated, bloated, and complex, that I was mystified at how I was ever going to make this site happen.

The More Complicated, The Easier To Procrastinate

Why did I do that? Well, I was procrastinating in a way, wasn’t I? I mean, I didn’t know that directly but as I analyzed my actions after, I realized that I was sneakily procrastinating. If I made my site simple, then it would be ready faster, and it would be in front of my customers faster. This would mean feedback faster, negative and positive. And I wanted to keep this baby close to my heart and in my head for as long as possible – away from all of that. (more…)

[Ep 60] As We Get Closer To Success, Self-Sabotage Is Imminent

  • Reading time:2 mins read

In this episode, I’ll be discussing about how self-sabotage can turn our imminent into almost a failure, or at least a few steps back.

I have noticed a trend in my life. Whenever I’m close to finishing something really important or close to success in a particular area of my life, it is quite inevitable that I will do something to sabotage my own success.

It is the fear of success that invades my soul at these moments. I think to myself mostly subconsciously, if I am a success, I’m going to become this person that I don’t like, or I’m going to change a lot, or I’m going to lose all of my friends, or a hundred excuses pop up into my head like fireworks.

[bctt tweet=”It’s all bullshit. It’s not real.” username=”BoomShikha”]

We are the same no matter what happens to us. Success will not change us. But in my mind, I have associated success with despised change, and that’s why I sabotage myself unintentionally when I get close to success.

[Ep 59] Workaholism Isn’t A Badge Of Honour

  • Reading time:2 mins read

In this episode, I’ll be chatting about workaholism and how it isn’t something to aspire to.

Most of us use our tendency to overwork as a positive quality. We wear it like a badge of honour. Day in day out, we display this sigil for people to see. We tell them how we spend 18 hours per day working hard and missing our dinners and family gatherings.

Workaholism, however, is not something to be proud of. To me, it is like an addiction that must be moderated.

No one should be working that hard, especially those who gave up their 9 to 5-day jobs just so they could create a life of freedom. (more…)

[Ep 58] Are You Making Things More Complicated Than They Are?

  • Reading time:2 mins read

In this episode, I’ll be discussing about complicating simple things.

Humans have this natural tendency to make things harder than they actually are. We overcomplicate things by over thinking them, examining each part and all of the possibilities that could go horribly wrong.

[bctt tweet=”The key here is realizing that everything is simple and is meant to remain that way.” username=”BoomShikha”]

It is, then, our duty to keep it in that simple state.

When I first began my podcasts, I did not think about all the equipment and logistics that I could use for my podcast recording.

All I knew back then was that I wanted to record my voice discussing topics that are important to me and that I would like to share with the world. (more…)

[Ep 57] The Big Secret Is Everyone Is Scared

  • Reading time:2 mins read

In this episode, I’ll be discussing fears.

Someone said to me the other day that it seemed like I was fearless. I laughed to myself when I heard that. I am filled with fear about everything – my business, my love life, my body and more.

[bctt tweet=”I’m actually 90% fear and 10% water.” username=”BoomShikha”]

But my strategy lies in not letting that fear hold me back from achieving my goals, come hell or high water. I mean that and I stand with that.

In the past years, each time I find myself afraid of anything, I take that as something that I need to accomplish. I take it as an essential asset for the evolution of my soul. So I walk on, past the heavy beatings of my heart, past my dread and self-doubts, past my hesitations, and into the next step of my life. (more…)

People Be Like, How Much Money Are You Making Now?

  • Reading time:5 mins read

In normal society, asking someone how much they make is absolutely taboo. I don’t know if it’s a good thing or bad. But that’s how it is. But for some reason, the tables turn when you start a business. All of a sudden, all the inner workings of your finances, and your business are fodder for everyone’s conversations, and questions.

Strangers will emerge from the woodwork like scary zombies, and ask you extremely personal questions about your business and work life. It doesn’t seem odd anymore. And if you try to turn the question around back at them, they bristle as if you have offended them.

Okay. That’s fine. I guess, I am not human anymore. Or at least part of this society. I feel like an untouchable of sorts, an outcast, a person pushed to the edges of society, to live in scourge and filth. (more…)

Have You Heard Of The 1% Rule For Success?

  • Reading time:11 mins read

I love to learn, and I am constantly either reading a self-help book, or listening to an audiobook, or watching to a motivational video on YouTube. We are so lucky to be living in an age where there is so much free material available for us to consume. If you have an internet connection and a phone, you have access to hundreds of thousands of hours of free material online. Of course, this can lead to a bit of overwhelm, and perhaps distraction, where we spend our time watching cat videos instead of doing the work that is necessary to get us ahead.

But that is where the 1% rule for success comes in. It says, that you just need to be 1% better than the rest of the crowd in order to be more successful. It also says that you only have to improve by 1% every single day in order to be a successful person, more so than others.

Let me break it down for you.

Kaizen – Continuous Improvement Changes Lives

You’ve probably heard of this term called ‘Kaizen’ which is a Japanese term meaning improvement, one-time or continuous, large or small.

How does this apply to success and optimal living? Kaizen advocates that as long as we are improving ourselves every single day by a little bit (whatever that amount might be), we will be a 100 times better off than the crowd.

The problem with most people is that they aren’t improving themselves. They are actually back-sliding. In this world, where everything moves so fast, if you aren’t improving and learning and growing, you are actually moving backwards. That is where a lot of people are at. They aren’t improving themselves at all, by learning or growing. They might even be killing off precious brain cells by watching crappy TV for 7 hours a day (the national American average), and drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes, and doing drugs (prescription or not).  (more…)

[Ep 42] A Single Risk Begets More Risks In A Cascade

  • Reading time:2 mins read

In this episode, I’ll be chatting about creative risks and why it’s important to go outside our comfort zone.

We all have our personal boundaries, surrounding our routines and what is familiar to us.

Why do we get so comfortable with the common? Why are we so afraid of the new and interesting? Making the move to digital nomading has allowed me to step outside of my comfort zone. By quitting my job to follow my dreams, I have challenged myself to things I wouldn’t normally do.

“In that mindset, I become this person who looks at everything and thinks, yeah, I can do that!”

In my head, if I can move to Chiang Mai to start my own online business, then I can do anything. I’m the person that I’ve been aspiring to be all of my life – that courageous, bold, beautiful, bright and shiny human that is going to take over the world. (more…)
