13 Questions That Will Help You Find Your Life Purpose

Are you living up to your infinite potential?

This is a hard post to write because it reminds me of the time in my life when I was miserable and unfulfilled.

But I want to do it to help everyone who’s dealing with this misery. It is such an important topic that I want to shout it out from the top of rooftops. I wish everyone knew what I know now.

Before I Knew My Life Purpose

Before I figured out my life purpose and started living up to my potential, taking advantage of my talents and abilities, living my true self according to my deepest authentic self, I used to walk around with a severe inferiority complex.

  • I had a hard time looking others in the eye.
  • I had a hard time looking myself in the eye.
  • I had a hard time with silence because I was afraid of finding out the truth – the truth being that I am wasting my time here on Earth and I have a limited amount of time to rectify that.
  • I had a hard time with my worthiness. I felt like I didn’t deserve to be alive, to take up space, to get my share of the pie.

The first time I started meditating I would be afraid to go too deep because I would see slime and black inside of me. My subconscious had been permeated with my unworthiness.

Now I Know My Life Purpose

Of course, this story has a happy ending. I figured out my life purpose through years of journaling, introspection, coaching, and learning. I know what I’m here to do now. And more importantly, I’m actually doing it (so many know what their talents are, but don’t use them).

But like I said, it took years for me to get here. I want to help you figure out your life purpose in a matter of days. Only if you are willing to do the work and dig down deep. That’s important.

Most people will read this post and not answer the questions. You need to write these answers down!

Pick up a pen and paper and write these answer down. That’s the only way you are going to figure out what you are on this planet to do. I don’t want you to feel like crap anymore, because you know you are not living up to your potential.

Here are 13 questions to help you find your life purpose. I have written down some prompters and my answers to get your juices flowing.

What did you want to be when you were a child?

This one is an easy one. And also a sad one. Most of us had dreams when were children. Most of us wanted to do and be something spectacular when we were young. What was it for you?

My ardent desire as a child was to serve people. I decided to become a doctor, so I could join Doctors Without Borders and cure people in need all over the world.

Even then the travel aspect of it was really appealing to me – that hasn’t changed even now.

Now I realize I would like to make people better, as in help them become better versions of themselves through my motivational words, videos, and podcasts.

Write down what you wanted to become when you were a child. Remember, no censorship. Write it all down. This is an exercise in getting all of that stuff out on paper so you can see clearly what you are meant to be doing. So write it down!

Who are you jealous of?

This one was a big one for me. I realized that I wasn’t jealous of celebrities or music artists, but of the people who were travelling to fascinating places, and were inspiring others with their words and lifestyle.

People like Timothy Ferris, and Rolf Potts were my heroes.

I salivated over their lives and words. I wanted to be them.

That’s when I realized I didn’t want to be rich and famous like most people think.

I wanted to be free, independent, and inspiring.

What DOES your ideal life look like?

This one was a big one for me. The funny thing is that for the longest time, I knew that I wanted to live a different life (my ideal), but when I actually sat down to write it out, I had no idea what my ideal would look like!!

I’m sure it’s the same for you. Have you ever actually written out what your ideal life looks like?

In my mind, my ideal life had lots of travel, and beaches, and writing. But when I actually set out to live a life like that, I realized that it was lacking in something. It was lacking in purpose.

Then, I tweaked it to include my life purpose of serving hundreds of thousands of people to be better versions of themselves with my words, videos, and podcasts, while travelling the world, meeting new people, and eating lots of delicious food. That seemed to be the right trigger.

It is my ideal life and I manifested it as soon as I knew it was what I truly wanted.

We all think we want lots of money and lots of travel and lots of sex. But when it comes down to it, all of that might not really make you happy for long. You need to figure out what you really want.

Write it down!

What do you daydream about?

Most of us probably spend way too much time thinking about sex. That is a given.

But in those few moments in between sex, what do you dream about? What do your true daydreams consist of?

Whenever I had a few moments to relax, I would dream about speaking to a room full of people, inspiring them with my words. I have wanted to be a motivational speaker for as long as I can remember. I am a great communicator – it’s my true talent. I can manipulate words to inspire people both written and spoken.

In my daydreams, I would always be standing in a room filled with thousands of people, giving an inspiring speech and receiving a standing ovation.

Gives me goosebumps just to write it.

What is that item for you? What do you daydream about? Write it down!

When you are at work, what would you rather be doing?

This is in the same vein as the above. But more specific. When you are at work, there are certain things you would rather be spending your precious time doing.

For me, it was always writing and yoga. I would rather spend my time writing and doing yoga, than anything else. I would sit at work, and dream about going home to write and go to a yoga class after. It was my ideal.

That is what I do with my days now. I spend as much time as possible writing and practicing yoga. It truly makes me happy.

What does that for you? What would you rather spend your time doing? And don’t be inane – drinking beer, hanging out with friends, and going to the cottage, would make you happy for a few moments, but we are searching for your life purpose here.

Be serious and write it down!

What do you get excited/passionate/intense about?

When was the last time you had a conversation where you got so into it that you lost track of time? When was the last time you started speaking really animatedly, and excitedly about something? When was the last time people told you to stop being so intense about something?

All of these are clues that are planted in our lives by the universe. The universe wants us to discover our life purpose, but it doesn’t want to just give it to us. You see you wouldn’t really appreciate your life purpose if it was just handed to you. If you worked for it, and found it after a lot of struggle, can you imagine how much sweeter it would be? That’s the whole point.

But the universe wants to help us for sure. So it leaves us clues everywhere!

We just have to be willing to look. We need to slow down and be aware of these clues.

These questions are helping you do just that.

For me, I get intense and excited about the laws of the universe, quantum physics, string theory, yoga, life purpose, travel, and spirituality. These topics run my engine faster and faster. They rev me up. They get me going. They cause that fire inside of me to burn harder.

What are those topics for you? Write it down!

When you get into a flow state, what are you doing?

Remember the last time you were engaged in something, and you got into a state of flow. A state where moments seemed to merge into one another, so that hours had passed, but it felt like moments. A state where you were just so ON. A state where everything seemed to work out perfectly as if you had done this all before.

You know that state?

You’ve been there probably once or twice in your life.

What were you doing?

In my life, I experience flow when I’m writing, podcasting/vlogging, meditating, riding my bicycle, reading, and doing yoga.

Those moments are epic. They pass by in a flash.

As you can see these are simple things to bring into my life on a daily basis – that is why it is so easy for me stay positive, happy and inspired. This is because I make sure my flow state happens daily.

Write down what your flow state moments are all about!

When you read through a list of courses, what courses do you gravitate towards?

Go to a educational website, like Coursera or EDX or Udemy. Glance through their course offerings and pick out anything that jumps out at you – courses that seem really interesting to you, courses that you would love to take if time or money wasn’t an issue, courses that you would take even if you weren’t getting paid for it or getting any monetary benefit from it.

What were these courses for you?

For me, the courses always end up being about psychology, motivation, willpower, quantum physics, self-help, success, meditation, and yoga.

I love this stuff! I study this stuff in my spare time. I thrive on it.

Write down what your courses are!

If money or time weren’t an issue, what would you do?

This is a question that’s been asked lots. Everyone knows what they would do if money or time wasn’t an issue.

The truth is that money or time is never an issue. As soon as you start living your life purpose, the universe starts taking care of your monetary needs automatically. It’s funny how that works out.

This happened to me. I decided to take a leap of faith and without a safety net, I decided to quit my job and start living my life purpose. I didn’t know where the money would come from. But I knew it would.

And guess what? It did!

What would you do if time or money wasn’t a issue?

Pretend it isn’t an issue. What are you doing with your days? After all is said and done, you will not be spending it in a stupor of drugs and alcohol and sex. You know you will want more than that. What is that more?

Write it down!

When you are chatting with your friends, what topic do you wish to talk about all the time?

Your true friends are the ones that let you ramble on and on about your favourite topics. I know my friends have had to suffer through hours of conversation about quantum physics, string theory, the laws of the universe, yoga, meditation, and spirituality.

But these are my topics. I want to talk about this stuff ALL the time. If I’m talking to a random stranger on a park bench, I’m talking about this stuff. If I’m talking to a person on a blind date, I’m talking about this stuff. If I’m talking to my parents, I’m talking about this stuff.

What are those topics for you?

What do you bore others with?

Write it down!

Which celebrity’s life do you want? Why?

I’m not asking this question because I believe celebrities are living lives that we should admire. But more importantly, I want you to ask why do you want that celebrities life? What is it about their life that appeals to you?

It might be the fact that they are able to give millions to charity and you would want to do that. Or that they are able to scuba dive in the Andaman and Nicobar islands off the coast of India at a moment’s notice, and you want that.

What is it exactly that you crave? What are you interested in exactly?

Write it down!

What regrets do you have?

If you believe as I do that the universe is perfect and everything is happening as it should, then there is no need for regrets, because everything had to happen exactly as it did for you to get here.

But even then, we can use regrets as a sort of clue to guide us to what we want to do with our lives.

I always regretted the fact that I didn’t start doing v-logging earlier because I love them so much.

What regrets are circling your mind? What would you change if you could go back? How would you live your life differently if you could?

Write it down!

What gives you goosebumps?

This is a good one. I find goosebumps are another signpost from the universe. It shows you what you truly care about – if the hair on your body is standing up on attention because of something you heard or did, then you need to write that shit down!

For me, I get goosebumps when I hear a new theory on willpower or psychology or the birth of the universe. Watching a movie like Inception gives me goosebumps. Talking about the illusion of time gives me goosebumps. Manifesting through the law of attraction gives me goosebumps.

What gives you your goosebumps?

Write it freaking down!

Why our life purpose matters

Why does this all matter? Why put in the effort to find our life purpose? Isn’t it just better to coast through life on the basis of mediocrity, despair, and boredom?

Do you know what happens when you live a life filled with purpose? This is how I live my life (and every person who lives a life filled with purpose):

  1. Every moment is a joy to be alive.
  2. I spend most of my time on this planet thanking the universe that I’m alive and thanking the universe for everything I have.
  3. I feel so damn grateful and lucky all the time.
  4. I want to jump out of bed every morning and get started on the day’s business. I love my life and it shows.
  5. I look ten years younger and I feel ten times better than people my age because I’m living a life filled with purpose.
  6. People love being around me because I am a source of positive energy and joy – who wouldn’t want to be around that?
  7. I live a life of ease and abundance – I get EVERYTHING I put my mind to, and I have more than I can ever use (in every regard).

I want you to experience this for yourself. So please answer the questions.

The thing with these questions is that if you answer them truthfully, honestly, and authentically (from your deepest self), you will see your life purpose staring at you in clear neon flashing lights.

It will be there written out for you by you.

These questions are useful only if you answer them. You need to answer them. Take the time to do this right now. Don’t delay until tomorrow. Write them out right now.
