From Now On, If You Want My Advice, You Gotta Pay For It

When I first went down this path of putting myself online and giving people advice, I did it, because I was called to do so. I had no idea where it would go. But I was happy to keep on taking a step at a time, and see where the trail would end.

Now, I have been blogging and podcasting for 3 years now, and I get a lot of viewers, and listeners, who message me on a weekly basis, asking me dozens of questions.

Of course, I am not famous or anything, but certain people tend to connect with my words, and they message me asking for support.

In the beginning, when I was just starting, and I had more time, I gave my time to people freely. I have answered hundreds of questions till now, through email, messenger, and other formats.

I was doing my own yoga practice the other day, as usual, by myself. I love doing a yoga practice on my own, because I can have so much more control over the moves that I choose. Tailoring my yoga practice to my body’s specific needs rather than taking a generic fits-for-all class. Which I love.

As I did my yoga poses at my own turtle-like pace, I heard someone slide open the yoga hall’s door, and ask me if I could teach her a few yoga poses as she had never done yoga. It was one of the local Thai girls who worked with me, very sweet, petite, and quiet. I said, yes, of course, and started doing the poses a bit slower than normal, to show her how to slide into each one.

She is a smart girl, so she was able to copy my moves almost exactly without a lot of guidance or coaching. I had a thought slip into my mind as I did my moves, thinking, there isn’t much difference if you look from the outside in, between me and her.

I am a published writer of the lowest calibre. I have some science fiction novels published on Amazon, and I write because I absolutely love to use my imagination to create new worlds, and new stories. In all honesty, I hate, absolutely hate sharing my writing experience with people, because there’s only one thing that comes out of it. Actually, two things. People either ask me if I have made money from my books yet, which really taint the whole experience of sharing my joy with people.

And/or, they ask me if I could read one of their short stories or novels or the first chapter of their book. It’s actually hilarious to me, because the reason they give for it, is that you seem like someone who is a doer, and I need someone who’s going to actually do what I ask them to do. Most other people in their life are not like that. They cannot be asked to do something like this, because they are too lazy or unfocused or unmotivated to comply.

Okay, so I think to myself, because I am motivated, and I am getting shit done, you are going to dump more shit on my head? Wow, what an ironic twist of situation. (more…)
