3 Reasons I Have Decided To Move To Chiang Mai For Six Months

A few weeks ago, I decided that I will move to Chiang Mai for six months to work on my online business. The decision actually came as a surprise not only to myself, but all of the people around me. I have been happily plugging away on my business in Toronto in my little oasis of a condo downtown. I love Toronto, and I love the life I have here.

Three Reasons I Decided To Move To Chiang Mai

Here are the three reasons I decided to move to Chiang Mai – why I decided to adopt briefly the lifestyle of a digital nomad. I have always been a nomad at heart, but I never really bought the digital aspect into it until now. I’m so excited to see how it goes.

I Want To Be Surrounded By Entrepreneurs

I am not running away from anything.

But I desperately want to be around other entrepreneurs who think like me and want the same things in life as I do.

In Toronto I’m surrounded by 9-5ers who are all really nice people, but don’t really think like an entrepreneur does. They don’t have any useful feedback to provide into my business.

They are all chatting about TV shows they’ve watched, politics, their children’s accomplishments, or renovations they are doing on their home.

It is irrelevant to me and the way I want to live my life. I know the digital nomads that I’ll meet in Chiang Mai are interested in building a passive income based on an online business, creating something that will change other people’s lives, travelling, food, and spirituality.

That’s where I want to be. In the cradle of creation and online business.

I feel so isolated and lonely in my apartment working on my business. I also have no one to mastermind or run ideas by who is well-versed in the logics of online business.

Chiang Mai has meet-ups every week on different subjects related to online business, personal growth, development, spirituality, and learning. I cannot wait to immerse myself in that culture. I’m going to make more progress in six months of being in Chiang Mai than in the six months in Toronto before I leave.

I Want To Reduce My Expenses

Toronto is a beautiful city. But it is also expensive. The standard of living is high for a very good reason. In Toronto, I end up spending 2500CAD to 3000CAD a month on daily expenses. In Chiang Mai, I’ll be able to reduce that cost to 1000CAD monthly!

I mean, that is an astronomical difference. I will also be able to rent out the condo I am living in right now and use the income from the condo to subsidize my living expenses in Chiang Mai.

Right now, each month, I spend so much time worrying about how I’m going to pay the bills, or dipping into my savings and hating myself for it. Due to that worry, I get impatient with the forward motion of my business. It isn’t progressing fast enough. In this impatience, I’m not letting my business take its normal course towards progress. That is detrimental to it.

When I move to Chiang Mai, I’ll stop worrying about money, and be able to focus all of my brain power on my business.

Creativity is stifled by worry. That means all the creative ideas I need for my business to progress are being stifled by my worry about my business. Once, I remove that worry out of the equation, I can turn up the creativity and boost my business success.

I Want To See If I Can Make It On My Own

I started this online business on my own to see if I can do it. It was a challenge of sorts to who I am, what I think about myself, where I stand in relation to who I was before, and so on. I loved how I reacted to the challenge, and how much I have grown up due to this challenge.

I want to move to Chiang Mai again on my own to see if I can do it. Can I make it on my own? Can I build a life on my own? Find an apartment, get internet, and a motorbike, find food to eat, find people to meet, make friends, build my business – all on my own.

I’m so excited to see how much personal growth is going to come out of this latest challenge to myself – to Boom Shikha.

All of the growth that was possible in Toronto has been done. I believe it is time to move on to a different country to make things happen and see how strong I really am.

The progress I am going to see in my own psyche, personality, and personal growth will be astounding – I can just feel it.

This Isn’t Goodbye Toronto

This is definitely not Goodbye Toronto. My beautiful and supportive family is here. Toronto will always be my home base. I’ll be back in March 2017 to see what adventure I want to take on next. But until then, I’ll be in Chiang Mai.

I’m moving there October 1st. I’ll document my progress and journey here on this website and on my YouTube channel. Keep in touch.
